Drawing on academic work in performance, cultural studies, literature, sociology, and anthropology, Kanter considers a range of responses to grief in historical context and goes on to imagine newer, more collaborative, and more civically engaged responses. Jodi Kanter is an associate professor of theater and dance at George Washington University. Her work focuses on performance, loss, and adaptation. Her essays have appeared in Text and Performance Quarterly, Theatre Annual, Cultural Studies/Critical Methodologies, and Women and Language.
